Pharmacy Technicians work alongside licensed pharmacists preparing medications, filling prescription requests, and checking for drug interactions and incompatibilities, all while providing excellent customer service. Timeline for success:

  • To work as a Pharmacy Technician, you will need to become certified by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy.  The Board offers two licenses: 1) Trainee License and 2) Full License.
  • You can practice under the Trainee License for 2 years.
  • Eventually, you will need to become certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board in order to obtain a Full License.
  • Visit the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy for additional information.

How long for each step?

  • Students must obtain their Trainee License prior to their externship assignment in their last session at Arizona College.
  • Graduates can sit for the Certification Examination at any time upon completing their program.

How much will each step cost?

  • The Trainee license is $46 for 2 years.
  • The Certification Examination is $129.
  • The cost of the Full License is prorated based on how much time is remaining on the Trainee License.

Are there any “deal breakers” that will prevent me from being able to complete a step (felonies, misdemeanors, etc.)

  • The PTCB and State Board of Pharmacy will determine on a case-by-case basis whether the applicant will be allowed to receive their license or sit for their certification exam if the applicant has any felonies or misdemeanors.
