Health IT Training ProgramsAre you interested in preparing for a career in medical billing and coding? Arizona College’s Health Information Specialist program is now offered at our Glendale and Mesa, AZ campuses.

Health Information is an exciting and fast-growing allied health field that can allow you to enter the medical field without providing direct patient care. Health information specialists, also referred to as medical billers and coders (or medical information specialists), work to ensure the quality and accuracy of medical records and billing accounts. The daily responsibilities of health information specialists may also include providing administrative support within their work environment.

Choosing a Medical Billing and Coding Program

Arizona College’s Health Information program is designed to provide you the education and up-to-date training needed to reach your goal of becoming a medical biller and coder. To assist our medical information students in their success, Arizona College offers:

  • Industry-specific training on skills and knowledge that medical billing and coding professionals use every day:
    • Medical terminology
    • Medical coding procedures
    • Specific billing requirements for insurance companies, government entities, and various health care facilities, like hospitals and outpatient clinics
    • Computerized medical billing systems and online medical billing
    • Medical records maintenance and relevant administrative skills
  • Health information courses taught by experienced faculty

Arizona College’s Health Information Specialist diploma program features an off-campus, 5-week clinical externship that provides you with real-world experience in the field of medical information. Including the externship, the program length is approximately 30 weeks (6 quarters).

Upon successfully completing the program, graduates are encouraged to pursue health information specialist certification.
