Those who decide to go back to school to pursue a degree in Nursing have a big decision to make – what type of Nursing program to choose. Many schools across the country offer either a Registered Nursing program or a Licensed Practical Nursing program. There are career growth and educational opportunities for RNs. As a Registered Nurse, there are opportunities for career growth, as well as opportunities to explore various related roles, such as Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Educator.

Arizona College Simulation Manikins

The use of high-fidelity simulation manikins for medical education purposes was originally developed in the 1960’s by Dr. Judson Denson and Dr. Stephen Abrahamson at the University of Southern California.  Denson and Abrahamson created Sim One, whose purpose was to train anesthesiology residents in endotracheal intubation using patient simulation. Patient simulation is a technique for hands on practice that educates and improves the competency of healthcare professionals.   They discover how to assess, create a treatment plan and provide direct patient care, in mock real world scenarios while under the supervision of an educator.  Patient simulation creates an excellent learning environment that reduces potential healthcare accidents and increases skill and confidence of the practitioner. National Nurses Week 2015

Every year, the community, general public and healthcare sector takes some time to observe National Nurses Week.  National Nurses Week officially begins on National Nurses Day, which is May 6th, and ends on May 12th, 2015.  This year’s theme is “Ethical practice, Quality care.”  Receptions and celebrations are often held throughout the week, to thank and honor those individuals who selflessly take care of others on a daily basis and have chosen to become professional nurses.  The final day of Nurses Week is May 12th, which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910).  She was an English nurse who quickly became known as the Founder of Professional Nursing).
