Health IT Training ProgramsAre you interested in preparing for a career as a medical biller and coder? Arizona College offers a Medical Billing & Coding program at our Glendale and Mesa, AZ campuses.

Medical Billing and Coding (or Health Information) is an exciting, fast-growing, in-demand allied health field that can allow you to enter the medical field without providing direct patient care. Medical billers and coders (also referred to as health information specialists, medical billing and coding specialists, or medical information specialists) work to ensure the quality and accuracy of medical records and billing accounts. Medical biller and coder duties may also include providing administrative support within their work environment.

Choosing a Medical Billing and Coding Program

Arizona College’s Medical Billing & Coding program can provide you the education and up-to-date training needed to reach your goal of becoming a medical biller and coder.

To assist our medical billing and coding students in their success, Arizona College offers:

  • Industry-specific training on skills and knowledge that medical billers and coders use every day:
    • Medical terminology
    • Medical coding procedures
    • Specific billing requirements for insurance companies, government entities, and various health care facilities, like hospitals and outpatient clinics
    • Computerized medical billing systems and online medical billing
    • Medical records maintenance and relevant administrative skills
  • Medical billing and coding courses taught by experienced faculty

Arizona College’s Medical Billing & Coding diploma program features an off-campus, 5-week clinical externship that provides you with real-world experience in the field of medical information. Including the externship, the program length is approximately 30 weeks (6 quarters).

Upon successfully completing the program, graduates are encouraged to pursue medical billing and coding certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or the American Medical Billing Association (AMBA).
